ATEX equipment and UK conformity: what to check
Product conformity and suitability for a particular hazardous area are separate checks. Use the documentation for the exact model and configuration when specifying lighting.
Great Britain: CE and UKCA marking
Current government guidance confirms continued recognition of qualifying goods meeting EU requirements, including CE marking, for equipment covered by the relevant Great Britain regulations. This does not remove the applicable conformity-assessment, marking, declaration and documentation requirements.
Check the manufacturer identification, product marking, declaration of conformity and English instructions for the supplied model. An ATEX certificate alone should not be treated as the complete documentation package.

Site responsibilities and DSEAR
HSE explains that businesses must assess explosive-atmosphere risks and select appropriate equipment for classified areas. Product certification does not replace the site risk assessment, installation requirements, inspection or maintenance arrangements.

- Confirm the site zone classification and relevant gas or dust group.
- Check the required temperature limits and ambient conditions.
- Review the exact model marking, certificate conditions, datasheet and instructions.
- Confirm the mounting arrangement, electrical connection and any requested options.
